Water Quality

Information on routinely performed analyses and fees can be found below. Please not that analysis of individual elements/compounds can be requested at reduced rates.

Water Quality Services

IECS currently houses two Agilent Technologies 1260 Infinity HPLC systems used for quantification of algal pigments in water and sediment samples. The systems can also be used to detect and quantify other biological compounds, such as algal toxins and fungal markers.

Instruments for diverse water chemistry analyses include:

  • ​Lachat QuickChem 8500 Series 2 Flow Injection analyses system

  • Unity Scientific SmartChem 200 Discrete Analyzer

  • Shimadzu AA-7000 Atomic Adsorption Spectrophotometer

  • Shimadzu GC 2014 Greenhouse Gas analyser coupled to a Teledyne Tekmar HT3 head-space sampler

  • Shimadzu UV-VIS 1800 Spectrophotometer

  • Thermo Scientific Barnstead Nanopure Water Purification System

Nutrient Chemistry - Lachat Quickchem 8500

* — a 25% overhead fee will be applied to all samples external to the University of Regina.
† — sample preparation fee is charged only once where multiple analytes are requested on a single instrument.

Water Chemistry - Smartchem 200

Trichromatic Chlorophyll - Shimadzu UV-VIS 1800

* — a 25% overhead fee will be applied to all samples external to the University of Regina.

Algal Pigments - Agilent 1260 Infinity HPLC
